Senior Researcher and Research Manager

Hang Li is senior researcher and research manager at Microsoft Research Asia. He is also adjunct professors at PekingUniversity, Nanjing University, Xian Jiaotong University, and Nankai University. His research areas include information retrieval, natural language processing, statistical machine learning, and data mining. He graduated from Kyoto Universityand earned his PhD from the University of Tokyo. Hang has about 80 publications in international journals and conferences. He is associate editor of ACM Transaction on Asian Language Information Processing and is in editorial board of Journal for Computer and Science Technology, etc. His recent academic activities include senior program committee members of WSDM'10, KDD'10 and SIGIR'10; area chairs of ACL'10 and ACML'10. Hang has been working on development of several products. These include NEC TopicScope, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft Office 2007, and Microsoft Live Search 2008,and Microsoft Bing 2009.

 

Abstract:

In this talk, I will introduce Information Extraction technologies for web search. First, I will introduce methods for Information Extraction. These include Hidden Markov and Conditional Random Fields. Next, I will give an example on how IE technologies can be used in Web Search.
